Medal, silver. Queens South Africa Medal, with three bars "South Africa 1902", "South Africa 1901" and "Cape Colony". Inscribed around edge; "3526 Pte. J. Barry, Rl: Muns: Fus:". Obverse; the crowned and veiled head of Queen Victoria and legend "Victoria Regina et Imperatrix". Reverse (Spink type 2); Britannia with a flag in her left hand holding out a laurel wreath towards an advancing party of soldiers; in the background are two warships; inscription "South Africa", with the wreath pointing to the "F" in "Africa"; inscribed at base "G.W. de Saulles". Straight swivel suspension. Ribbon; red with two dark blue stripes and a broad orange central stripe. Verification certificate with it shows a discrepancy, in that Barry is recorded as having the Orange Free State bar and not the Cape Colony.
