Postcard, colour, glossy; white margin at bottom, titled at left "O'Connell Street, Limerick City, Ireland.", with "Photo: P. O'Toole, John Hinde Studios" at right. View shows the street, looking north from just south of the Royal George Hotel; two files of traffic moving along the street in each direction, buses parked outside Todd's, many pedestrians moving along the pavements, and one man is standing in the middle of the road in centre foreground. Reverse is printed in grey, with some red; at bottom left is a red rectangle with an outline map of Ireland with a grey dot over Limerick and a grey arrow pointing to it; to the right a text reads "O'Connell Street, Limerick City: The city/ of Limerick stands on the site of an important ford of/ ancient times, where the Shannon River meets the sea./ It is one of the most progressive of Irish cities, an/ important transport and industrial centre. The history/ of Limerick dates from the middle of the ninth century, when the Danes made a settlement here. In the twelfth century the Anglo-Normans took over and succeeding centuries saw them or the Irish in control."; below that "Printed and Published by John Hinde Limited, Cabinteely, Co. Dublin, Irish Republic."; "2/171" at top left; at centre top logo, rectangle with circle in top right and bottom left corner linked by a horizontal line, with "John Hinde" above and "Original" below the line; to right are five horizontal lines for address; rectangular box at top right for stamp. The card was posted as the answer to a quiz; addressed to "Late Late Show, P.O. Box 1057, R.T.E., Donnybroke[sic], Dublin 4", from Eugene Barry, 8 The cottages, Adare, Co. Limerick; and his answer is "Tony Ward". 22 pence stamp at top right, showing a rectangular tower house, with a circular bawn wall tower in the foreground. Two cancellations; one circular black, reads "Luimneach/ ?? PM/ 6 Feb/ 1985"; the other is rectangular black and not entirely legible, depicts a porticoed building with to the right "???/???/ Foundations/ ?? Units/ Tax Free" and below that across the length "Savings Certificates". Pencil inscription below sender's address "8cp?"
