Gun, iron with wooden stock. Punt gun by William and John Rigby, Dublin (1826-1866). Extremely long barrelled gun, with trunnions for mounting close to stock; short wooden stock with traces of woodworm. Percussion lock on right side, with two pans matching two indents on the hammer. Trigger on under-side with slide action, with loop on under-side for string which passes through iron eye on end of stock, to be pulled from a short distance; the trigger is currently in the carrying position, the end of the trigger held in place with a screw with washer. V-notched rear sight with foresight close to end of barrel. Top of barrel engraved "Wm & Jn Rigby, Dublin", four marks on the under-side reading away from the trigger; "10789" engraved; crossed maces with crown in upper quadrant and "V" in lower, stamped in; "2" stamped; and crossed maces with crown in upper quadrant and the other quadrants reading anticlockwise "BPC", stamped; the two mace stamps are Birmingham Gunmakers Proof House Marks.
