Hat, bowler. Black reinforced felt crown and rim, with black cloth ribbon hat-band tied in a bow at the side and with similar cloth reinforcement ot the rim. Worn tan coloured leather brow-band stitched at bottom to the rim. The band has a gold stamped inscription "Curran & McCarthy/ Hatters/ Limerick", with plain stamp "British Manufacture" below. Band also inscribed "DB" in pen. The upper edge of the band has a series of parallel slashes at the rear, through which passes a ribbon, tied in a bow, which holds the bottom of the lining. The lining was a white or cream silk/rayon but is now discoloured with wear. Under the crown the lining is stamped with a gold and red circle, with a diagonal red band and the word in gold "Hat/Craft". On the crown is a round yellow sticky-backed, auctioneer's label inscribed "56"
