Letter, manuscript. Letter, Gussie (Charles Arthur) to his brother Desmond from No. IV Troop, South Africa Corps, Heidelberg, SA, 14 April 1901. Promoted to acting sergeant of troop; living rough, eating on ground, often sleep out; Blood is in another troop 30 miles away, in a valley scarping two sides of hills - Boers on two others; football matches on Sundays and cricket in town; was a fight on 13th five miles away, some killed; many will leave corps after war, thinks he will also; all people he came out with are in different troops; has a black boy to clean horse and saddle, pays him 10/- a month. 4pp., two sheets each written one side..
